Job description

Job Purpose

The Dietetic Associate Practitioner (DAP) delivers high-quality, protocol-led nutrition and behaviour change support for adults living with obesity and related long-term conditions. Working under the supervision and delegation of a registered dietitian, the DAP provides structured patient education, routine follow-up, lifestyle coaching and monitoring within clearly defined clinical pathways, ensuring patients remain engaged and receive consistent, evidence-based care.

The role is primarily focused on supporting patients within the Wraparound pathway, where care centres on sustainable behaviour change rather than medication management or complex dietetic assessment. The DAP plays a key role in maintaining patient flow, identifying clinical or behavioural concerns that require escalation, and supporting safe, efficient service delivery through accurate documentation, adherence to approved protocols and close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

By undertaking protocolised clinical and administrative activity, the role releases registered clinicians to focus on complex decision-making, supervision, governance and service development, supporting Roczen's ability to deliver safe, scalable digital care.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Patient Care

  • Deliver protocol-led lifestyle, nutrition and behaviour change support for patients within designated Roczen pathways.
  • Conduct structured patient follow-up appointments, reinforcing agreed care plans and supporting long-term engagement.
  • Provide evidence-based patient education using approved clinical pathways, digital resources and consultation frameworks.
  • Collect accurate clinical information, including weight, dietary intake, lifestyle behaviours and patient-reported outcomes.

2. Clinical Safety and Escalation

  • Recognise clinical, behavioural or safeguarding concerns that fall outside defined protocols and **escalate** promptly to a registered clinician.
  • Work within delegated competencies, approved SOPs and clearly defined scope of practice at all times.
  • Contribute to safe, high-quality patient care by identifying risks, maintaining situational awareness and seeking support whenever clinical uncertainty exists.

3. Documentation and Clinical Governance

  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation for every patient interaction in line with professional, organisational and contractual standards.
  • Adhere to all clinical governance, information governance, safeguarding and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in audits, competency reviews and quality improvement activities as required.

4. Team Working and Service Delivery

  • Work collaboratively with Senior Dietitians, Dietitians, Nurses, Doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team to support coordinated patient care.
  • Support efficient patient flow by undertaking delegated clinical and administrative activities within agreed pathways.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture focused on continuous improvement, patient experience and operational excellence.

5. Professional Development

  • Complete all mandatory training and maintain competence within the DAP competency framework.
  • Participate in regular supervision, competency assessments and reflective practice with a named Senior Dietitian.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of obesity management, behaviour change approaches and GLP-1 therapies relevant to the role.

Essential:

  • Foundation Degree, Assistant Practitioner qualification or equivalent Level 4 qualification in a health-related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting patients in a healthcare, community or wellbeing setting.

  • Understanding of obesity as a chronic, multifactorial disease.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, information governance and consent.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries, delegated practice and recognising limitations of competence.
  • Awareness of clinical governance, patient safety and risk escalation processes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital clinical record systems.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and motivate patients using person-centred approaches.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to follow clinical pathways, SOPs and delegated treatment plans accurately.
  • Accurate clinical documentation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognise concerns and **escalate** appropriately to registered clinicians.
  • Confident using digital systems and virtual consultation platforms.
