Job description

Position Summary

The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, completes inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, completes adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure we uphold our commitment to safety and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Performs all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations.
  2. Performs maintenance tasks based on driver pre- and post-trip inspections in a timely manner or as directed by the maintenance manager.
  3. Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements, making appropriate corrections when needed.
  4. Works in adverse conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow to repair equipment and vehicles.
  5. Builds and assembles machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
  6. Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves them in a timely manner.
  7. Maintains all relevant records for all work and procedures and reports on issues.
  8. Performs accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  9. Runs diagnostic tests on vehicles, analyzes results to troubleshoot, and test drives vehicles when necessary.
  10. Performs procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety of equipment, including preventative maintenance, tire changes, brake replacements, and rebuilding hydraulic components and hoses.
  11. Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services, and performs other duties as needed to support company goals.
Career Path Definitions & Distinctions

Technician Apprentice: Demonstrates the ability to work alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician to learn and develop skills. The Apprentice provides maintenance, repairs vehicles and equipment, focusing on preventative maintenance and safety.

Technician B: Demonstrates the ability to identify operating issues, including examining, test driving, and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems using standard testing procedures and diagnostic equipment. Corrects issues as needed.

Technician A: Demonstrates the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair vehicle systems such as brakes, suspension, steering, tires, hydraulics, engine, and electrical systems to ensure safety and dependability.

Master Technician: Demonstrates the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding and replacing engines, transmissions, and hydraulic components.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C Driver’s license, and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. A minimum of 1-year experience in inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment is required. Excellent communication, listening, problem-solving skills, and a dedication to customer service are desired. Ability to work collaboratively in a team is essential.

This position requires successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a drug screen.
