Title: Diesel Mechanic 4

Reports to: Fleet Maintenance Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hourly

Founded in 1999, DTG Recycle is the largest recycler of commercial, industrial, construction, and demolition materials in the Pacific Northwest.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform heavy truck and equipment repairs for a commercial fleet, including diesel engines, air brakes, trailers, and electronics.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and failures on tractors, trailers, and other machinery.
  • Communicate repair needs effectively with managers through verbal and written methods.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Complete repairs independently and efficiently within industry standards or deadlines set by management.
  • Use hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments) and power tools (pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, hoists).
  • Perform preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or confirm repairs.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components.
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, wheel seals, bearings, and reassemble equipment.
  • Use hydraulic jacks or hoists to lift heavy parts or equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using test instruments like handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect and verify safety guards, bolts, and safety devices.
  • Ensure parts meet factory specifications through dimension and clearance checks.
  • Repair major components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic and electrical systems, and complete assemblies like turbochargers and fuel systems.
  • Identify and report root causes of equipment damage.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 5-8 years of experience in truck repair and diagnostics.
  • Transmission diagnostics.
  • Brake systems (disc and drum).
  • Electrical systems (lights, engine harnesses, ECM).
  • Internal engine diagnostics (overhead, injectors, etc.).
  • External engine repairs (alternator, pulleys, starter).
  • Differentials, HVAC systems, axles, wheel bearings, wheel seals.
  • Aftertreatment diagnostics, air systems, hydraulic systems (valves, cylinders).
  • Routine cab and chassis repairs, service work.
  • Experience with Detroit, Cummins, CAT engines.
