Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Diesel Fleet & Equipment Mechanic to maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair our companys heavy equipment, tri-axle dump trucks, and fleet vehicles used in landscaping, material hauling and snow removal operations. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics, and takes pride in keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on:
    • Heavy landscape equipment (e.g., skid steers, loaders, excavators, zero-turn mowers)
    • Tri-axle dump trucks and CDL-rated vehicles
    • Light-duty trucks, trailers, and company vehicles
  • Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, brake service, tire repair, hydraulic fluid checks, etc.)
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety and emissions standards
  • Maintain detailed service records and report repair needs or vehicle downtime
  • Assist with emergency roadside repairs or field service when required
  • Track and manage parts inventory and order supplies as needed
  • Identify and recommend equipment replacement or upgrades
  • Ensure shop tools and work areas are clean, organized, and safe
  • Support seasonal maintenance needs, including snow removal equipment setup and repair

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certification a plus
  • Minimum 35 years experience in diesel/heavy equipment mechanics
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Valid drivers license (CDL or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics
  • Own basic mechanic tools (company provides specialty tools)
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in outdoor or shop conditions
  • Strong communication and time management skills

Qualifications:

  • ASE or DOT certifications
  • Experience in landscape, snow removal or construction industry
  • Welding or fabrication skills a plus
  • Familiarity with maintenance software or fleet tracking systems

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed indoors in a shop and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours during snow events or emergency breakdowns
