Job summary
We are looking for a Retinal Screener / Photographer for our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in North East London area (City and Hackney, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest).
The post-holder will deliver high-quality care for patients with diabetes. The role requires working unsupervised within a community-based environment, with support from team leaders.
Diabetes is the most common chronic illness affecting East London residents. Early detection and treatment of diabetes-related eye problems can prevent disability and premature death. The Diabetes Eye Screening Service aims to detect and offer early treatment to people with diabetes developing sight-threatening eye disease.

The post-holder should have good rapport with people and strong organizational skills. You will enjoy patient contact and aim to make each clinic visit positive for individuals with diabetes. Responsibilities include examining and gathering information from patients to support clinical assessments for diabetes eye disease.
No prior experience in diabetes eye screening is required; training will be provided, including the use of screening software and retinal cameras. Over time, you will undertake a Health Screening Diploma, supported by local training and mentoring. Once trained, you will rotate between screener, photographer, receptionist roles, and database entry.
Screener Photographers will have a primary base but must be flexible to work across various screening locations as needed.
