Job summary

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 4 screener/grader for the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. The post involves grading retinal images, administering drops and using OCT to detect referable maculopathy, with a requirement to assess around 1500 patient sets annually.

You will support patients through screening, communicate sensitively, and work across multiple sites to deliver high-quality care in line with national targets.

Qualifications

• National Screening Diploma for Health Screeners in Diabetic Eye Screening, must complete within paid time within 1 year.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferably in a care related field.
• Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) qualification or willingness to undertake.
• Current or recent experience in Ophthalmology/Optometry with direct patient contact.

Responsibilities

• Grade diabetic retinopathy images and manage referrals.
• Operate fundus camera and OCT equipment.
• Provide patient education and support during screening.
• Maintain internal quality assurance for grading.
• Travel across Trust sites as required and plan clinic time.
