Overview

Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

£53,751 - £60,651 Inc HCAS pro rata per annum

Part-time - 22.5 hours/week

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic part-time Band 7, Diabetes Specialist Dietitian to work alongside our part-time Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, within our Intermediate Diabetes services team. The post holder will work in a clinic setting, including one-to-one, face-to-face, virtual, and group settings. You will work across sites in Bromley and visit nursing homes and patient homes. Although a car driver is not essential, you would be expected to travel around the borough as required.

You will deliver a high-quality, evidence-based service to patients, including specialist expertise for: type 1 diabetes requiring insulin dose adjustment, pump support, and self-management skills; and people with Type 2 diabetes and pre-conception diabetic patients. You will provide education to patients through DAFNE and DESMOND programmes. The team includes specialist nurses, dietitians, and consultants, and we work closely with the podiatry service.

Contract information: permanent, part-time, Band 7. Location: Beckenham area with travel as required within the borough.

Compensation is contingent upon NHS experience and current banding/pay point. Main duties
  • Act as an expert resource, providing clinical advice and support to others involved in care for people with diabetes in primary care and community settings.
  • Provide specialist nutrition and dietetic advice as part of a specialist multidisciplinary diabetes team for people with diabetes and healthcare providers in primary care and the community.
  • Work as an independent practitioner, demonstrating specialist skills and knowledge through expert dietetic practice and diabetes care.
  • Manage and prioritise a varied patient caseload, including patients with complex needs in settings such as primary care, outpatient clinics, patients homes, and nursing homes.
  • Provide complex nutrition and dietetic advice, education and support for people with diabetes and their carers, including patients with obesity, hyperlipidaemia, renal disease, swallowing difficulties, and those requiring enteral feeding.

Person Specification

Application/Interview Essential

  • Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Advanced specialist knowledge demonstrated by post-registration courses and experiential learning (e.g., BDA Diabetes modules).
  • Accredited DESMOND/DAFNE Trainer.

Desirable

  • MSc in a relevant specialist area.

Experience

  • Essential: Ability to interpret clinical data, develop clinical guidelines, protocols and standards; experience in developing and delivering training programmes for other health professionals and clients.
  • Desirable: Experience working in diverse community settings and in partnership work; experience with insulin pumps and/or HCL.

Personal Qualities

  • Knowledge of our business; car driver (desirable).

IT

  • Confident in the use of dietary analysis programmes; proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Internet, email, and dietetic/nutritional analysis software.
