Job overview

The Endocrine and Diabetes team has a new and exciting opportunity available for someone with the appropriate skills and experience to join our friendly, fast paced and proactive service . This is a varied and interesting role within a friendly department. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care.

You will have excellent communication skills and will have a flexible approach to working within the team. Responding effectively to enquiries from the general public, service users and other colleagues.

This role is varied and busy and we are looking for a forward thinker, who can adapt to change and be responsive in supporting the administrative needs of the clinicians within the department .

You will be educated to GCSE English and Maths A-C or equivalent, be computer literate and able to type at a good pace and accurately.

Main duties of the job

Providing an effective and well-organised administrative service and for meeting the changing priorities within the department.

To work independently, prioritising and managing own workload quickly and accurately, responding effectively to the needs of the department(s).

Communicate appropriately with patients who may be fearful, aggressive or havesensitive concerns needing reassurance and who may present difficulties in communication e.g. terminally ill patients, deaf patients, mentally ill patients and elderly confused patients.

Update RTT in accordance with Trust guidelines. Participating in data management utilising PAS and other departmental patient
databases.

Experience

  • Experience working in an administrative environment
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft office and strong aptitude in the use of other programs and administration systems
  • Experience/knowledge of issues when working with confidential information

  • Experience in patient or customer contact
  • Recent experience in the NHS

Qualifications

  • GCSE Grace C / 4 or equivalent in English Language
  • GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent in Maths
  • Experience and training to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent
  • RSA grade II or equivalent touch-typing skills

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook diary management
  • Intermediate/advanced and accurate word processing skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Provides and receives routine information and adapt for where there may be barriers to understanding or where a level of tact/persuasion is required
  • Ability to prioritise and work independently
  • Ability to produce work of a high standard with attention to detail
  • Good understanding of written and spoken English for transcription of audio and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Evidence of high-level office administration skills with experience of developing and maintaining robust office procedures.
