Job Summary

The Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) Programme team is at the forefront of the Ministry of Defence’s efforts to develop novel technology into new capabilities, helping to protect our armed forces from the complex and growing threats that face the UK and the world.

Your role in the DEW Programme will be to support the effective development of DEW as it matures into enduring military capability. A novel technology requires a novel approach, requiring the ability to take initiative and work within a dynamic environment.

This is a great opportunity to join the DEW team as we scale up and demonstrate improved ways to develop and procure capabilities in collaboration with industry. We sit in the MOD’s Strategic Programmes Directorate, who develop complex weapons for the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

You will join the delivery branch of the DEW team, and support across programme finance, risks, governance and approvals. An excellent candidate will be proactive in their approach, have the ability to manage multiple work strands and have exceptional stakeholder management skills.

The delivery branch focuses on management of the DEW portfolio of projects, including financial planning, crafting business cases, managing programme governance, and working closely with our delivery teams in Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), and industry.

As a DEW Portfolio Delivery Support (C2/HEO), You Will Work Collaboratively With The Team To Ensure The Successful Delivery Of Multiple Programmes Within The DEW Portfolio, Focusing On Establishing Enduring DEW Capabilities Across Land, Air, And Maritime Domains. Your Responsibilities May Evolve Based On Business Requirements And Will Include:

  • Supporting the effective delivery of programmes within the DEW portfolio.
  • Drafting and assisting in the submission of business cases in adherence with the correct approval procedures.
  • Supporting the effective and efficient execution of programme governance.
  • Coordinating efforts to build and maintain the DEW community.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
