Job summary

NEXT is offering a 12-month industrial placement in Leicestershire. You will gain hands-on experience migrating platforms to the cloud, building automated pipelines with Azure DevOps, and containerizing apps with Docker and Kubernetes. You’ll work with Windows and Linux, learn .NET/C#, and contribute to the full development lifecycle.

Applicants must be studying a degree with a dedicated placement year (July 2027 to July 2028). This fast‑paced team fosters learning and real impact from day one.

Qualifications

• On track for a 2:1 or higher in a degree, or a Master’s degree that includes a 12‑month placement covering cloud concepts (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), CI/CD, containerisation and IaC.
• Self‑motivated with a readiness to learn and tackle new challenges.
• Ambition shown through analytical and programming skills and drive to build a great career.

Responsibilities

• Assist in migrating platforms from on‑prem servers to the cloud.
• Develop hands‑on knowledge of infrastructure as code and automated pipelines.
• Work with Docker and Kubernetes to containerize applications and manage environments.
• Develop scripts (PowerShell) to automate tasks and streamline processes.
• Support teams using cloud environments and collaborate with security teams.

Job description

The role

Technology drives what we do at NEXT, and as a Tech Placement, you will be a vital part of our evolution. This role is designed to help you learn and grow by giving you hands‑on experience and real responsibilities.

What you'll take on

You'll play a key part in migrating our platforms from our own servers to the cloud. This will give you hands‑on experience with a range of technologies, including Infrastructure-as-code to build and manage environments automatically and Azure DevOps for creating automated pipelines that build and release software. You'll also work with Docker and Kubernetes to run applications in containers, and use PowerShell and other scripts to automate tasks.

You'll also get to work with both Windows and Linux servers, as well as SQL databases. Additionally, you'll learn how our applications are built using the .NET Framework and C#, gaining a solid understanding of the entire development lifecycle.

As a member of the team, you'll help project teams use our cloud environments efficiently and collaborate with our brilliant in‑house security and auditing teams. This is a great opportunity to make a real impact on our migration projects from day one.
