Job summary

Deliveroo is seeking a Core Infrastructure Engineer to own end-to-end initiatives across Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and IaC. You will design and operate secure, scalable AWS-based systems, improve platform metrics, and develop self-service tooling.

The role involves mentoring engineers, participating in on-call rotations, and advancing shared standards with partner platforms. Ideal candidates bring hands-on Kubernetes, Terraform/Argo CD, and CI/CD experience, plus strong Go or Python

Responsibilities

• Own complex infra initiatives end-to-end across Kubernetes, cloud infra, networking, and IaC.
• Break initiatives into executable work, identify dependencies, provide estimates, document decisions.

• Plan and drive improvements to compute and cloud platform using data and metrics.
• Build and own self-service tooling and IaC frameworks.
• Unblock teams via reviews, questions, and knowledge sharing through guides/playbooks.
• Lead on-call rotations, drive root-cause analysis and incident mitigation.
• Drive reliability, readiness, and developer-experience tooling goals.

• Take ownership of complex infrastructure initiatives end-to-end across Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, networking, and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks;
• Break initiatives into executable work, identify dependencies, provide estimates, and document technical decisions and infrastructure interactions;
• Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable systems in AWS;
• Plan and drive technical improvements to the compute and cloud platform using data and success metrics;
• Build and own self-service tooling, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks;
• Unblock other teams through code and design reviews, answer questions, and share knowledge through guides, playbooks, and internal tech talks;
• Serve as a first responder during on-call rotations, lead root cause analysis, and drive incident mitigation and follow-through;
• Drive team-wide quality objectives for reliability, operational readiness, and developer experience tooling;
• Support hiring through interviewing and recruiting activities;
• Partner with platform teams across Wolt, Deliveroo, and DoorDash on shared standards, tooling, and the joint infrastructure roadmap.

• Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end and contribute to architecture-level decisions;
• Have deep hands-on production experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration, including scaling, upgrades, and multi-tenancy;
• Have strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, including networking, IAM, account structuring, and cost management;
• Be proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code, preferably Terraform, and in building provisioning or automation frameworks;
• Have solid software engineering skills in Go, Python, or similar for internal tooling and automation;
• Understand Kafka, gRPC, Postgres/MongoDB, Redis, and CI/CD such as GitHub Actions, including technology trade-offs;
• Understand SRE principles, incident response, fault-tolerant architecture, and capacity planning;
• Have experience unblocking and mentoring engineers through code/design reviews, knowledge sharing, or best practices;
• Have excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with multiple engineering teams at global scale;
• Nice to have: GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux, progressive delivery, service mesh technologies, multi-cluster or multi-region Kubernetes at scale, GCP compute and networking, FinOps practices, multi-organization infrastructure unification, open-source infrastructure or platform engineering contributions, CNCF ecosystem experience
