Job summary

TXP is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a Central Government digital transformation programme. The role focuses on AWS cloud engineering, automation, and modern agile delivery to underpin critical public services.

The candidate will design and optimise infrastructure, build CI/CD pipelines, and support Java-based microservices with strong emphasis on security, monitoring and operational resilience.

Qualifications

• Proven DevOps Engineer with large-scale digital transformation experience.
• Central Government/public sector experience is highly preferred.
• Extensive hands-on AWS experience and infrastructure automation.

DevOps Engineer - AWS | Central Government

Rate: £555 per day

Contract: Contract

Location: Predominantly remote with occasional/ad hoc travel to client sites

Clearance: Active SC Clearance required

The Role

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a major digital transformation programme for a Central Government client.

You will work within a cloud-native AWS and Java environment, helping to build, maintain and optimise the infrastructure, deployment pipelines and cloud platforms underpinning critical public-facing digital services.

The successful candidate will have strong Central Government/public sector experience alongside a proven background in DevOps, AWS cloud engineering, automation and modern agile delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain infrastructure across AWS cloud environments.
• Build and support CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and efficient software delivery.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployment.
• Support Java-based applications and microservices.
• Implement monitoring, alerting and logging solutions to maintain platform reliability and performance.
• Support platform security, compliance and operational resilience.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and performance issues across development and production environments.
• Promote DevOps best practice, automation and continuous improvement.
• Support disaster recovery, backup and business continuity activities.
• Collaborate closely with Architects, Developers, Security and Delivery teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer within large-scale digital transformation programmes.
• Strong Central Government/public sector experience.
• Significant hands‑on experience with AWS.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps or similar.
• Experience supporting Java‑based applications and microservices architectures.
• Strong Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python or similar.
• Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging technologies such as CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK and Prometheus.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking and operational best practices
