The Business

Our client is an established but growing company providing a state-of-the-art technology platform for the sale and administration of insurance products. They are the #1 technology platform for Commercial Lines Insurers, MGA’s & Brokers. A heavily R&D based business that has continually invested in technology and has a cloud-native offering with API first technology on Microsoft Azure.

The Opportunity

Our client provides a cutting-edge Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for insurance businesses across the UK.

The company’s in-house development team is dedicated to continuously enhancing the functionality of the product, ensuring it remains at the forefront of insurance technology.

They offer a business-critical comprehensive business SaaS insurance solution designed to empower their customers by enabling them to securely store customer data, generate accurate quotes, and configure automated workflows, alongside a host of other powerful features.

The successful candidate will work closely with the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to streamline development operations, ensure platform uptime, performance and stability, and drive continuous improvement through proactive recommendations.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a talented DevOps Engineer to grow into a leadership position as the company continues to expand.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the platform, ensuring optimal performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to identify and implement platform enhancements that prioritise scalability, reliability, and robust security.
  • Support company with cost reduction across cloud platforms by optimising deployments, implementing cost effective solutions and advising the business on cost saving opportunities.
  • Maintain and optimise GitLab Community Edition and GitLab pipelines, Azure DevOps Projects and Pipelines, embedding industry-leading CI/CD practices to streamline development workflows.
  • Manage, monitor and scale Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS) clusters, leveraging automation for efficient deployments and resource management.
  • Utilise Grafana to monitor platform performance, create actionable dashboards, and establish alerts for proactive issue identification and resolution.
  • Support and enhance the utility cluster, managing essential tools such as Devtron, Octopus Deploy, and a mail server (Postal) to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Champion the adoption of DevOps best practices, driving automation, optimising deployment cycles, and minimising manual interventions

Requirements:

  • Education: Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Expertise in Azure and Azure DevOps, NGINX, Redis, RabbitMQ, GitLab Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS), and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and related tools (e.g. Helm, Argo).
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools like Grafana and setting up alerting systems.
  • Familiarity with Devtron, Octopus Deploy, and mail server management (postal) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of best practices in cloud security, performance, and automation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Expertise in Azure and Azure DevOps, GitLab Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS), and PostgreSQL databases.
