Job description

Our Devices & Test Engineer will support the technical development and lifecycle management of our small but growing customer end devices portfolio (CPE).

Note: this is a hybrid role so you will be able to comfortably commute to our Head Office in Abingdon, Oxon.

Gigaclear supplies a range of equipment for customers' homes, from high-end mesh routers to simple network termination equipment, which is crucial in delivering the last metres of our ultrafast service; you will support the development of this product portfolio within the technology team.

You will be engaged in procurement activities to evaluate new potential products, collaborating with our selected manufacturers at a low level to evaluate and, where necessary, improve or adjust devices and operational procedures to suit Gigaclear's requirements.

On a technical front, you will work closely with colleagues and peers in both our retail and wholesale organisations to ensure that the equipment we provide is fit for purpose, owning test strategies and automated solutions for customer end devices.

You will be working with colleagues in the Networks and Systems team to ensure test environments, firmware, and low-level networking protocols function properly and devices are managed and accessed securely, as well as the Chief Engineer's Office and Procurement teams to ensure that products are compatible optically and physically with other parts of our network.

On a business front, you will work with colleagues in Marketing and Sales Teams to provide advice and consultancy services by bridging technical and business requirements when considering Devices and Network capabilities.

If you are looking for a role where you can make a real difference to rural communities and people who have been left behind for decades by the rest of the UK telecoms market, Gigaclear is the place to be.

Key Accountability & Responsibilities
  1. Technical ownership of Gigaclear's customer equipment portfolio and corresponding management and provisioning solutions.
  2. Support and management of all legacy deployed devices and upgrade paths.
  3. Research, evaluation, and development of new products and firmware builds in collaboration with network equipment manufacturers and internal teams.
  4. Assurance of device security, performance, and functionality in support of our retail and wholesale partners.
  5. Ownership of Test environments configuration and scheduling.
Skills & Experience
  1. CPE / Customer Product Equipment testing experience.
  2. An understanding of TR-069 and related protocols for remote device management.
  3. Ideally CCNA / JNCIA and have experience in protocol compliance testing and a sound understanding of Ethernet and IP Networking.

Gigaclear is a growing Fibre Broadband (FTTP / FTTH) company, developing our fibre-to-the-premises broadband infrastructure to some of the most difficult to reach areas of the UK, empowering those communities with broadband to rival any city.
