What Is the Opportunity?

We are seeking a Development Underwriter for our Professional Indemnity team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. Travelers is a leader in professional indemnity insurance, serving professionals like lawyers and accountants. The role involves underwriting Professional Indemnity risks, collaborating with internal teams, and developing new business.

We offer flexible hybrid work arrangements, with three days in the office and two days remote. The position includes a £3,000 sign-on bonus, with potential referral bonuses.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and assess risks from brokers, making decisions within authority and providing recommendations.
  • Apply underwriting principles to maximize profitability, considering pricing, retention, and limits.
  • Negotiate terms, understand product strategies, and manage the business book quality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with colleagues for service delivery.
  • Develop broker relationships, execute sales plans, and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Participate in meetings, provide excellent customer service, and support team goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in underwriting solicitors' professional indemnity.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry operations, market insights, and financial drivers.

Licensing or Certificates

  • ACII qualification preferred.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Relationship management, business perspective, analytical thinking, and product knowledge at various proficiency levels.
