What Is the Opportunity?

We are looking for a Development Underwriter in the Professional Indemnity team to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. Travelers is a top name in professional indemnity insurance due to our industry-specific knowledge and market-leading approach to coverage. You will ideally have prior experience in underwriting Professional Indemnity risks. You will collaborate with regional or product colleagues and other internal/external partners to attract new business, retain existing customers, and explore new areas of business.

Travelers Europe offers flexibility to employees wishing to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy, which involves working three days in the office and two days at home (or pro-rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the company's discretion.

This role is eligible for a £3,000 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the referrer may be eligible for this bonus.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and assess risk for products and accounts from assigned brokers, making decisions within your authority and providing complete recommendations.
  • Underwrite accounts and risks considering different approaches to maximize profitability, including pricing, retention, endorsements, limits, indemnity, and security.
  • Make prompt decisions within your underwriting authority, negotiate terms, and adhere to submission timelines.
  • Understand and implement product segment strategies to meet budgeted results.
  • Manage your book of business to maintain the quality of business per regional or product strategy.
  • Ensure accurate documentation within account management systems and compliance with standards.
  • Work collaboratively with underwriting account management resources to deliver timely service.
  • Seek training opportunities to develop underwriting expertise.
  • Build and leverage broker/client relationships through visibility and disciplined sales management.
  • Develop and execute sales plans for brokers, identifying and capturing new business opportunities.
  • Foster collaboration with colleagues across regions and business units.
  • Participate in regional and product meetings.
  • Provide superior customer service, ensuring responsiveness and product knowledge.
  • Support team goals and strategic objectives.
  • Work tactically with brokers to align understanding of TICL goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in underwriting solicitors professional indemnity is required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Degree education preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry operations, business issues, and financial drivers affecting the line of business.
  • Understanding of the local insurance marketplace to utilize market insights effectively.

Licensing or Certificates

  • ACII qualification preferred.
