Job summary

NFU Mutual is seeking a Development Underwriter to work with our General Insurance Sales Force and Service Centre, driving new business across mid-market property and liability.

This field-based role is homebased, with travel expected 2–3 days per week across the North West, and focuses on delivering technical underwriting excellence, risk appetite guidance, and strong customer service to our Agency Network and Sales teams.

Qualifications

• Property & Liability commercial underwriting experience within the mid-market.
• Proven ability to build and manage relationships.
• Confident communicator with experience leading discussions and decisions with integrity.
• Development underwriting experience / Proven business development experience (desirable).
• Dip CII or equivalent qualification (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Identify and acquire new business alongside the North West sales teams.
• Underwrite personal caseload and deliver underwriting guidance.
• Support development of new mid-market pipelines and attend client visits.
• Act as technical expert on underwriting strategy and risk appetite.
• Travel 2-3 days per week as required.

We believe that commercial business presents our biggest growth opportunity over the longer term and this is an opportunity to be an integral part of that growth. Working in partnership with our tied Agency Network and Sales teams in the North West, you’ll support the development of new business pipelines, attend client visits as required, gain increased exposure and develop your experience and understanding of various risks, whilst underwriting your own personal caseload. You’ll be a key point of technical excellence to the Agency Network and Sales Force, providing clear direction on NFUM Underwriting strategy, Risk Appetite and the technical knowledge and skills to deliver objectives, KPI’s and first-class customer service. Using your market knowledge and expertise, you’ll apply a ‘whole account’ underwriting philosophy, working in collaboration with cross-divisional teams and supporting with the identification of new mid-market opportunities.
