NFU Mutual is seeking a strategic Underwriting Outplacement Manager to shape the underwriting approach for the National Intermediary Services (NIS) channel. You will influence growth, align with risk appetite and regulatory standards, and lead important external partnerships.

Based in Stratford-upon-Avon with hybrid working (20% office, 80% home), you will travel to broker partners as needed and manage a direct report within a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

• Significant General Insurance experience across underwriting strategy, risk appetite and commercial lines products or markets.
• Proven responsibility for portfolio performance, profitable growth, risk selection, underwriting rules and risk acceptance criteria.
• Experience of delegated authority, binder, broker or outsourced underwriting governance.
• Experience of using data to make decisions and deliver results in a targeted environment.
• Experience of leading and developing line management or project teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the underwriting approach for business placed through National Intermediary Services (NIS).
• Ensure outsourced underwriting remains aligned with NFU Mutual’s risk appetite and regulatory responsibilities.
• Set strategic priorities, identify market opportunities and oversee how risks are placed and managed.
• Lead relationships across Underwriting, Pricing, Product, Sales, Agency, Claims, Marketing and Propositions.
• Oversee delegated authority, binder and outplacement arrangements; manage a direct report; occasional UK travel.

You’ll take ownership of the underwriting approach for business placed through **National Intermediary Services (NIS),** ensuring it delivers commercial value while remaining aligned with NFU Mutual’s risk appetite, technical standards and regulatory responsibilities. Your work will ensure outsourced underwriting remains aligned with NFU Mutual’s risk appetite, technical standards, regulatory responsibilities and long-term objectives. You will also use portfolio insight to guide decisions, address gaps in cover and support delivery of growth and performance targets. Working across Underwriting, Pricing, Product, Sales, Agency, Claims, Marketing and Propositions, you will build trusted relationships and influence decisions across a broad stakeholder group. You will oversee delegated authority, binder and outplacement arrangements, bring external market insight into the business and lead and develop a direct report. Some travel to broker partners will be required. This role is aligned to our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford Upon Avon – you will need to spend 20% of your time here, with up to 80% homeworking on offer.
