Job summary

Stride Resource Management in the UK is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to take ownership of developing a regional broker market across the North, with a focus on Manchester and Leeds.

You will build relationships, create pipeline, and convert mid-market opportunities, reporting to the Regional Director, while enjoying autonomy to shape activity and drive profitable growth within delegated underwriting authority.

Qualifications

  • Strong underwriting background in Property and Casualty.
  • Experience building broker relationships in the North.
  • Ability to generate and convert new business.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships with core commercial brokers across the North.
  • Build a robust pipeline of mid-market new business.
  • Review, negotiate and underwrite new business within authority levels.
  • Represent the business to brokers and accelerate opportunities.

Job description

You are already trading commercial new business across the North and you know which brokers can produce the right mid-market opportunities when you have the appetite, service and underwriting authority to support them properly.

This role gives you the chance to take ownership of developing a regional broker market rather than simply servicing an existing panel. You will be responsible for building new business across the North, with a particular focus on Manchester and Leeds, and you will have the autonomy to shape where you spend your time and which relationships you develop.

The opportunity
  • You will join a well-established, growth-focused MGA with a strong commercial proposition and a clear appetite to expand its presence in the North.
  • The role is centred on new business. You will be building relationships, creating pipeline and converting mid-market commercial opportunities across a broad Property and Casualty proposition.
  • You will report into the Regional Director, but this is a genuinely market-facing role where you will be trusted to manage your own region and broker relationships. The business is looking for somebody who already understands the northern broker market and can create momentum rather than waiting for opportunities to be handed across.
What the role looks like

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and managing relationships with key commercial brokers across the North.
  • Building a strong pipeline of profitable mid-market new business.
  • Identifying where individual broker relationships have the greatest potential and developing them accordingly.
  • Reviewing, negotiating and underwriting new business within agreed authority levels.
  • Acting as a senior trading contact for brokers and helping move opportunities forward quickly and commercially.
  • Balancing growth ambition with underwriting discipline and long-term profitability.
  • Supporting colleagues on referrals and more complex underwriting matters where required.
  • Working closely with technical underwriting and wider internal teams to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Representing the business in the regional market and strengthening its position with brokers across Manchester, Leeds and the wider North.
Who this could suit
  • You will already have a strong commercial underwriting background, ideally across Property and Casualty risks, and you will be comfortable generating and converting new business.
  • You will know the northern broker market well and have existing relationships that you can develop further. You may already be working as a Development Underwriter, New Business Underwriter, Senior Underwriter or Trading Underwriter and want a role with more regional ownership and freedom.
  • You will be commercially minded, confident in front of brokers and comfortable making decisions. The strongest candidates will combine good technical judgement with the ability to create opportunity through relationships rather than relying purely on inbound flow.
The business
  • You will be joining one of the more established independent commercial MGU platforms in the UK, with a broad commercial proposition and a business model built around delegated underwriting authority, broker relationships and responsive trading.
  • The business has also entered a significant new phase of growth, with fresh backing behind an ambitious plan to expand its UK platform further. That gives this role more substance than a straightforward regional underwriting vacancy, because the North is an area where the business wants to build meaningful additional presence.
  • The culture is strongly broker-facing. Underwriters are expected to trade, make decisions and find reasons to write the right business rather than operate behind a rigid process.
Flexibility and location
  • This is a remote role covering the North, with particular focus on Manchester and Leeds.
  • You will have access to a Manchester office when it suits you, but the expectation is that you will manage your own diary around broker meetings, market activity and where the opportunities are.
  • That autonomy is important. You will not be measured by how often you sit behind a desk, but by the quality of the relationships you build and the profitable business you generate.
Package and benefits

The base salary is available up to £70,000 depending on experience, alongside a performance-related bonus.

The wider package includes:

  • Permanent Health Insurance.
  • 25 days' annual leave.
  • A high-profile regional position with genuine autonomy and direct exposure to the growth strategy.
The next step

You will want to understand the underwriting appetite, the level of authority attached to the role, which broker relationships offer the strongest opportunity and how much freedom you will genuinely have to develop the region.

We can talk you through that confidentially, including the regional strategy, the existing broker footprint and where the business sees the biggest opportunities across the North, before you decide whether it is worth taking the conversation further.
