New Development Technologist

The Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented New Development Technologist to join our small but growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about food science and manufacturing to play a key role in bringing new products to life, from concept to commercialisation, with a focus on filling, liquids, or ambient products.
Key Responsibilities:
- New Product Development (NPD): Lead and support the development of new food products from initial concept through to successful launch, ensuring they meet market needs, quality standards, and cost targets.
- Recipe Formulation: Develop and optimise new recipes and formulations, conducting trials in the kitchen and pilot plant.
- Process Development: Design, develop, and refine manufacturing processes for new products, with specific experience or interest in filling, liquid processing, or ambient stable products.
- Ingredient Sourcing: Research and evaluate new ingredients, working with suppliers to ensure quality and compliance.
- Scale-Up: Manage the smooth scale-up of new products from development to full-scale production, resolving any technical challenges.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of product specifications, formulations, process parameters, and trial results.
- Quality & Food Safety: Ensure all new products and processes comply with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC) and company quality specifications.
- Sensory Evaluation: Participate in and organise sensory evaluations of new products.
Skills & Experience:
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Previous experience (e.g., 1-3 years) in a product development or technical role within the food manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
- Specific experience or a strong understanding of filling processes, liquid products, or ambient stable food manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of food science principles, ingredient functionality, and food processing techniques.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and quality management systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
