Overview
The Bastion Development Team works on a highly secure and reliable platform widely used in banking for core operations. The team comprises two highly skilled developers handling development work in the AS400 environment, BAU work and on-call support. This is a fixed term contract position for 12 months.
What you will be doing
The core purpose of the role is to facilitate the analysis, design and development for the Bank's savings, lending and investments transactional banking system (Bastion). While maintaining a hands-on development role you will also collaborate with and lead a small team of RPG programmers. You will work closely with our Change Management and Testing teams to redevelop and improve existing functionality in line with the Bank's Strategy, and with our Support and Admin teams to ensure high levels of service.
Responsibilities
- Hands on development, maintenance and support of the Bastion banking application in line with industry best practice
- Supervising the team including day-to-day team activities, assigning resources, reporting progress, issue resolution and delegating where necessary
- Working with the architecture and Infrastructure teams to ensure the platform remains aligned to the capacity and strategic requirements of the bank
- Working with, and advising the project teams and our business to evolve business requirements into designs and solutions
- Working with Admin and Support teams to ensure continuity of service
- Being the primary contact for Bastion development, communicating effectively with business users and senior stakeholders
- Ensuring timely delivery of developments in order to meet project goals and deadlines
- Taking responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the technical documentation associated with Bastion developments
- Line managing and coaching direct reports, including all aspects of performance management, development, conduct, sickness management, appraisals, employee administration and recruitment
- Work on Incidents, service requests, problem records and change requests within SLA
Qualifications
- Previous work experience as a Senior Analyst or Programmer using RPG programming language in Financial Services
- Experience troubleshooting application issues by analysing application/data interfaces
- Line management experience is essential
- Strong knowledge of RPG programming language and of the AS400 environment
