Job summary

Development Scientist

Location: Oxford, UK

Working Model: Fully Onsite

Our first application is DNA/RNA sequencing, and we are developing technology for the analysis of other molecules, including proteins. Our tools help characterize the biology of humans, diseases (like cancer), plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, and whole environments. We are a UK-headquartered company with a thriving culture of ambition and strong innovation goals, operating globally with customers in more than 125 countries.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Sequencing Development Team as a Development Scientist. This exciting and challenging role assists in the technical development of current and future sequencing products, focusing on using sequencing techniques to drive the integration and development of hardware, software, firmware, and flow cell chemistry.

You will be responsible for improving the performance and reliability of contemporary core sequencing platforms and guide the design & development of future sequencing technologies: advancing performance, scalability, and innovation to enable next-generation genomic sequencing platforms.

What We’re Looking For
Education
  • Essential - Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a relevant physical/biological field
  • Desirable – FMEA, ISO 9001, ISO 13485 or other relevant qualifications
Experience
  • Essential – 2+ years of experience developing scientific products or applications from concept through deployment, ideally within the life sciences, biotechnology, or related sectors.
  • Desirable – 3-4 years of experience developing scientific products or applications from concept through deployment, ideally within the life sciences, biotechnology, or related sectors. Proven ability to translate technical requirements into robust, user-focused solutions.
Lab Skills & Technical Knowledge
  • Working knowledge and experience of basic laboratory techniques (e.g. pipetting, use of thermocyclers).
  • Experience leveraging Linux and Python to develop solutions, investigate complex technical issues, and provide data-driven answers to scientific questions.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong communication skills for constant interaction within a multidisciplinary team (Research, Development, Engineering, Production, and Informatics).
  • Proven record of using excellent problem-solving skills to solve issues
Soft Skills
  • Strong attention to detail, high level of organization, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Growth Mindset
  • A willingness to learn and develop is essential; comprehensive training will be provided.
