Overview

Development Manager Nature & Environment

The Crown Estate has a unique opportunity to support nature recovery across its marine estate. We are looking for proactive, innovative and creative people to help drive growth, and value (social, economic and financial) in a way that can unlock opportunities for nature.

This role will be pivotal in helping us bring to life the value of new and existing natural assets and supporting the delivery of innovative activities that can accelerate nature outcomes through new products, agreements and partnerships. The Development Manager will work closely with the wider Nature & Environment team, and other colleagues in the Marine Team to make connections across our customer base and diverse partners.

The role requires the ability to originate/maintain/establish key customer relationships both at a local and national level. Experience of Estate and/or Asset Management and/or marine sector(s) is necessary, as is the ability to cultivate effective internal and external relationships to deliver commercial outcomes. Technical knowledge of nature/environmental matters is not essential, but an interest in learning about this exciting new sector is critical.

Main accountabilities
  • Champion customer engagement and relationship management, fostering strong connections with stakeholders to enable robust yet successful conversations
  • Support the development of compelling business cases that highlight the potential value and feasibility of projects
  • Support the optimisation of value through commercial negotiations, ensuring favourable terms for the organization while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships
  • Help design and shape leasing product documentation, ensuring lease commercial design aligns with the overall strategy
  • Lead, with support, the market engagement & focussed research activities to inform value proposition, understand demand and tailor product development
  • Drive revenue generation and capital value growth, contributing to the financial success of the portfolio
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive effective contract negotiation and contracting processes
  • Champion the principles of sustainability, integrating sustainable practices into project operations and decisions
Most important skills based requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in estate or asset management, with a focus on the marine environment where possible
  • Willingness to build and maintain sector-specific relationships and network to support opportunity identification, diligence and execution
  • A collaborative, innovative and creative approach to solving problems, with an ability to seek out and balance the diverse perspectives/motivations of others which may be in play, and focused on the issues that matter and which deliver our intent
  • Proven ability to prioritize assets/opportunities based on value and strategic objectives
  • Strong portfolio management skills, including reporting and performance tracking
  • Highly efficient, organised and motivated
  • Ideal candidates will also have:
    • Experience of negotiating innovative agreements drawing on existing examples and best practice, and a willingness to design creative solutions for new activities
