Ameresco has an exciting opportunity for a Development Manager to join our UK Multi-ECM team based in the London office. We are seeking strategic thinkers with excellent project management, commercial, and organisational skills—essential for winning new business and driving company growth.
This role is pivotal in leading the development of innovative project opportunities across a diverse range of energy efficiency and renewable technologies. The successful candidate will manage work assignments from the initial project tender stage through to Investment Grade Proposal and Contract Award for both public and private sectors.
The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in developing successful energy and renewable projects, a good foundation in engineering fundamentals, and the ability to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including technical experts and decision-makers. Extensive experience in the local authority, educational, university, hospital, commercial, and industrial sectors is required. The candidate must be willing to travel across the UK and Europe, while based in our Central London office.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssume overall responsibility for all aspects of project sales development from bidding process to securing contracts.
Ensure successful completion of all project sales development within the stipulated timeframe and project development budget, compliance with bid criteria, and alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
Collaborate with all project stakeholders, both internal and external, to develop high-quality, winning proposals, including the scope of work, design, programme, commercial terms, and costs.
Lead bid strategy development, understand tender scoring criteria, optimise solutions for maximum points, review competitive information, and communicate win themes and sales strategies across the project team.
Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and understanding of proposal and contract terms.
Set up project development budget and control bid costs within the approved limits.
Maintain financial and pricing models during project sales development, including project cashflow forecasts, and ensure commercial terms are favourable to a positive cashflow position.
Serve as the client interface and key point of contact.
Prepare and deliver presentations to prospects/customers.
Develop supply chain delivery plans and work with contractors to prepare project costs/pricing, including formal tender preparation and negotiating optimal commercial terms.
Review project commercial terms and coordinate with legal and senior management teams to negotiate the most favourable terms for the company.
Arrange for timely execution of contracts.
Maintain all account and opportunity-related data current and relevant in CRM (Salesforce).
Ensure all internal company approvals are obtained before issuing any formal proposal or variation to customers.
Track and manage bid outcomes, organise post-bid reviews to identify areas for improvement, and provide feedback to the team.
Organise comprehensive handover to the delivery team upon contract execution.
Adhere to all company IMS policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum 2:1 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Engineering preferred).
Relevant experience in developing energy efficiency and/or renewable projects.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualification is advantageous.
Knowledge of engineering project cost estimation and accounting is desirable.
Proven track record of originating, developing, and securing sales of complex offerings.
Commercially astute with comprehensive understanding of ESPC, PPAs, EaaS, and other commercial structures.
Demonstrated sales lead development and account cultivation skills, including effective negotiation and closing techniques.
Significant knowledge and experience of low carbon technologies within the built environment, including energy efficiency measures, solar PV, heat pumps, EV charging infrastructure, BESS, etc.
Experience of negotiating with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident, and have a flexible approach to work. They will be customer-focused, passionate about energy efficiency, renewable energy, and decarbonisation. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work under pressure, and drive completion within deadlines.
