Development Management Officer

Contract: 3+ months
Rate: £36 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: North Northamptonshire Council - based at one of our office hubs (Kettering, Thrapston, Corby, or Wellingborough)

The Role

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced Development Management Officer to join its Planning Service on an interim basis.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to shaping growth across the area while managing a varied caseload of smaller-scale planning applications.

The role offers flexible, hybrid working - currently, most work is undertaken from home, with a minimum of one day a week in the office. You'll also be responsible for carrying out your own site notices and site visits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate planning applications and other submissions.

  • Manage a caseload of smaller-scale applications through to decision.

  • Undertake site visits, consultations, and assessments.

  • Prepare and present planning reports for Committee.

  • Negotiate improvements to development proposals where appropriate.

  • Provide advice and guidance to applicants, agents, and the public.

  • Liaise with colleagues across the Council and external stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working within the English Planning System.

  • Can interpret policy documents, plans, and drawings.

  • Is confident writing clear, accurate reports.

  • Has good organisational and communication skills.

  • Can balance customer service with regulatory requirements.

  • Is able to travel independently for frequent site visits.

Desirable: Membership of the RTPI (Licentiate/Associate/Chartered).
