Job description

Development Engineer

A Five Star house builder have a requirement for an Engineer to join their Engineering team based in Warrington.

Engineer role

The role of the Engineer is to provide technical support at all stages of the development process, from initial viability advice to full design packages, gaining technical consents and providing advice to all other departments and selected contractors during construction. You will undertake engineering design directly or assess and appraise consultant's designs for suitability and to ensure the designs are the most cost effective, compliant with legislation and practical. You will also be responsible for commissioning and managing Consultants, for civil and structural designs, ensuring all information is available and competent for use in tendering, production and in the procurement of technical consents.

Duties & responsibilities:
  • Implement CDM/EMS, identifying foreseeable risk in designs and taking action to design risk out, in line with company policy.
  • Discharge the Designers responsibilities under CDM regulations.
  • Ensure CDM/EMS site start processes and site close out procedures are followed and recorded.
  • Maintain a good understanding of environmental/ecological constraints to development and ensure that appropriate mitigation is undertaken to allow development to proceed in line with the Regional Programme.
  • Continue to develop site designs and provide full engineering support throughout the planning and building regulation process.
  • Manage consultants in road, sewer, levels, cut and fill designs, to satisfy planning whilst maintaining the most competitive and practical solution.
  • Co-ordinate and manage external consultants to resolve any engineering issues.
  • Co-ordinate and manage statutory bodies such as Highway Authorities/ Road authority, Water Companies, Environment Agencies etc to resolve any engineering issues.
  • Work with the project team to add value and secure the best planning consent and engineering solution for the company.
  • Manage community engagement consultations to support planning applications.
  • Responsible for evaluation and appraisal of development opportunities to purchase new sites.

Skills & Experience required:
  • Extensive experience of engineering issues gained within housebuilding industry e.g. roads and sewers, foundations, land drainage, utilities, etc.
  • Engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of technical and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical and environmental reports and make suitable recommendations.
  • Experience using AutoCAD / PDS / Windes / Microdrainage
