Job summary

Original Talent Recruitment is seeking a Test Engineer to create and deliver design validation plans for powertrain EV machines. You will resolve failure modes and provide design input to ensure components meet product specs.

You will work in a small, autonomous team, managing your day-to-day workload and collaborating with test technicians to execute tests and drive SOPs for product quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical or automotive engineering or equivalent design experience.
• Experience with test and calibration, ideally for electric machines.
• Environmental test experience, ideally for electric machines.

Job description

Purpose of the Job

1. The purpose of the job is to create and deliver design validation plans in relation to powertrain EV machines
2. Resolve failure modes and provide design input in order to ensure components meet product specifications
3. Work in a small team with a high level of autonomy, managing own day to day work load

Main duties to be carried out

1. Definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for the company's range of electric motors and possibly prototype vehicles
2. The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs
3. In turn this may involve supporting the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data
4. Working closely with test technicians who will execute the tests
5. Driving product development SOPs in line with product quality standards
6. Undertake engineering calculations and design verifications
7. Liaise with external test houses, writing Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents evaluating quotations and arranging for completion of tests to company requirements
8. Analysis of relevant test standards in order to create test plans attain certification
9. Support and lead where necessary cross function DFMEA reviews at component level
10. Take ownership of tasks
11. Support first off prototype build events
12. Support and contribute to cross functional design review meetings
13. Attend project review meetings and deliver on key milestones
14. Demonstrate a keen desire to learn and develop your skills and engineering knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience required

1. Degree in mechanical or automotive engineering OR mechanical design experience within a precision engineering environment.
2. Test and calibration experience, ideally in relation to electric machines
3. Environmental test experience, ideally in relation to electric machines

Skills and Capabilities required

1. Experience of the definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for electric motors / complex electromechanical systems
2. The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs
3. Able to support the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data (e.g., motor controller / inverter etc)
4. Experience of failure resolution / problem solving using 8D processes or similar
5. Experience with originating Quality and SOP documents for Test Procedures, DVP, 8D, and FMEA
6. Able to work effectively in a fast paced, small company environment in conjunction with test technicians
7. Able to produce test reports, test data and organise DVP activities
8. Able to ensure that Test Requests / Process are understood, achievable and delivered
