Development Coach

At Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), we are seeking a passionate Development Coach to join our dedicated Adult and Youth Transitions team.

Location : Broadmeadows and Fitzroy, with travel around Metro Melbourne

Job Type : Maximum Term Full-Time working 38 hours per week, ending 30 June 2026

Salary : $85,264.31 - $89,124.91 per annum, based on skills and experience plus 11.5% superannuation.

About the role

The Development Coach is responsible for the delivery of the Economic Pathways to Refugee Integration (EPRI) Program including participant engagement, recruitment, prevocational and employability skills training, employment placement and on the job support.

This role also supports the program by aiding English language development and acquisition in new workplace contexts, including clarification of rights and responsibilities in the employee / employer relationship and agreement, and both prevocational and on the job coaching to ensure candidate understanding of those responsibilities as they relate to workplace OHS systems and requirements.

• The Development Coach will support implementation of an engagement plan, for accessing this group in the community and facilitate referrals into the EPRI program.
• Deliver pre-employment training including formal, technical and industry specific language development related to the anticipated job pathways, occupational health and safety systems requirements and shared responsibilities, income, payslips, timesheets, tax and superannuation so participants can read and understand their remuneration details, employment law and context including employee agreements, entitlements, and awards.
• Manage a small cohort of program volunteers.
• Establish relationships with employers and assist them to embrace diverse candidates, with a particular focus on local industries experiencing skills shortages and / or with a range of job opportunities.
• Work in close collaboration with staff within the Broadmeadows Thrive Hub and across Youth and Adult Transition program area to collectively achieve outcomes for all participants.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences :

• A strong track record of successfully supporting disadvantaged jobseekers into sustainable employment, by providing pre-employment skills building, vocational guidance, social support and post placement support.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, human services, community development and / or education, or extensive relevant experience.
• Proven track record of engaging and influencing employers of various sizes to achieve employment outcomes for participants.
• An in depth knowledge of the causes and consequences of CALD unemployment and the kinds of strategies that are successful in helping people from a CALD background follow pathways to work.
