Job Description:

The Catering and Events Department at Imperial College London operates various cafés and restaurants across all London Campuses, mainly in South Kensington, Hammersmith, and White City. The department aims to provide affordable, high-quality food and services for the Imperial community.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Chef based at our South Kensington campus. The role involves developing and executing new food concepts, re-branding, remobilisation of outlets, and maintaining high food quality and profitability.

The successful candidate will assist in planning and coordinating the kitchen team to ensure effective service, comply with health and hygiene legislation, and develop team members. You will support culinary initiatives contributing to the growth and strategic management of food services across all Imperial Campuses, including White City.

The portfolio includes three restaurants serving over 1000 meals daily, 18 cafes and outlets, an à la carte restaurant, two fine dining venues, internal and external event catering, a bar, and contracted services for the Royal College of Music. The total sales budget exceeds £9.1 million, with food and beverage costs around £5 million, and event operations at a break-even point with a budget of £3.5 million.

  • Manage direct reports to ensure daily tasks meet business needs.
  • Support product and menu development targeting various price points and catering formats, tailored to skill sets.
  • Involved in menu creation, food presentation, and maintaining accurate costing in the PW system.
  • Contribute to refreshing the food offering with creative ideas aligned with current and future food trends.
  • Perform audits to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, including managing onsite inspections.
  • Previous experience in catering/kitchen management in high-volume, multi-site environments.
  • Experience as Head Chef, Development Chef, or Group Chef.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Creative approach to catering service development based on food trends.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Diplomacy and tact in dealing with people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
