Overview

We are seeking an experienced APEX Developer with strong Sybase DBA expertise to support a UK-based banking environment. The role focuses on onboarding Sybase databases into dbDoot (a compliance tool), developing dbDoot rules, building ETL integrations from Sybase to Oracle, and ensuring alignment with banking-grade database configuration standards and GRC controls.

The role requires close collaboration with the existing Sybase operations team, acting as Devil’s Advocate to review best practices, validate configuration standards, perform gap analysis, ensure all critical controls are properly defined, approved, and signed off in line with banking and regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on role supporting a highly available, security-sensitive, and business-critical banking environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain dbDoot rules for approved Sybase configuration standards
• Customize and enhance the dbDoot front end using Oracle APEX, including enhancements and bug fixes
• Integrate GRC and compliance controls
• Develop interfaces and workflows required to onboard Sybase databases into dbDoot
• ETL and Integration
• Design and develop ETL pipelines from Sybase to Oracle
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance across integrations
• Installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance of Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ databases
• Performance tuning including SQL optimization, memory management, statistics gathering, and optimizer analysis
• Setup, management, and troubleshooting of Sybase Replication Server and Replication Agent
• Implement and test backup and recovery strategies including full, differential, and incremental backups
• Enforce database security including user access controls, encryption, and security audits
• Database design and schema optimization aligned with enterprise and regulatory standards
• Standards, Controls, and Best Practices
• Act as a counterpart to the existing Sybase Operations team
• Review and challenge existing Sybase database configuration standards and best practices
• Perform criticality assessment and gap analysis of defined standards
• Identify missing controls and improvement areas in line with banking regulations

• Experience with other RDBMS platforms such as Oracle or SQL Server

• 10 to 12 years of experience as a DBA or database focused developer in large-scale enterprise environments, preferably within banking or financial services
