The Role and Key Responsibilities

Join our Public Protection (PP) unit during a transformative period as we implement Operation Soteria, enhancing investigations of sexual offenses. We seek dedicated detectives to support our safeguarding efforts, working in various locations including Brighton, Crawley, Eastbourne, Hastings, and Littlehampton.

Our teams investigate crimes targeting vulnerable individuals, working with partners to protect at-risk populations. We welcome officers with experience or interest in Public Protection, including those seeking to develop into accredited detectives. Ideal candidates are problem solvers, curious, tenacious, resilient, compassionate, and analytical, capable of handling adversity and establishing facts for justice.

Sussex offers career progression, lateral development, and promotion opportunities.

Skills & Experience

Applicants must:

  • Be a substantive officer (at appropriate rank) not under probation, serving in a Home Office Force or BTP
  • Pass vetting, health, and fitness checks post-interview
  • Have no disciplinary, integrity, or performance issues
  • Show commitment to attendance and Sussex Police
  • Not have applied to other forces simultaneously
  • Have resided in the UK for the past three years or provide a good conduct certificate
  • Hold a full UK manual driving license with fewer than 6 penalty points
  • Not be involved in proscribed organizations or groups
  • Declare business interests and reserve force involvement
  • Have no offensive tattoos or outstanding CCJs/bankruptcy issues
