Detective Constable – Degree Holder Entry Programme – DCDHEP

Description: This route is designed for graduate degree holders aspiring to become Detectives. The training combines practical experience and classroom-based study (with a partner university) to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge. You will be employed as a police officer from day one, working with experienced officers in investigation teams and on the frontline.

University involvement: Yes, a 2-year graduate diploma course with study required both during training and in your own time.

Qualification upon completion: Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing.

Detective route: Yes, the program prepares you to become a fully qualified Detective after probation. Training includes roles in Response and Neighbourhood policing, with a focus on investigative teams in the second year.

Training: Delivered in-house via classroom and virtual learning. You will not attend university physically but will undertake university-level coursework remotely.

About The Programme

The DHEP is open to degree holders, offering a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Policing. Most learning occurs on the job and digitally, with face-to-face sessions in Birmingham. You will serve as a Police Constable, working in various teams and responding to emergencies on a 24/7 shift pattern. The second year focuses on detective training, leading to full qualification and potential career progression into specialized areas.
