Hastings Direct is seeking a Desktop Surveyor – Home Claims to assess property damage remotely and settle claims efficiently using our in-house software, prioritising customer service and cost-effective outcomes. The role is hybrid with Leicester or Bexhill as a location, reporting to the Surveying Manager.

You will liaise with customers, determine policy cover and liability, and contribute to claims auditing and continuous improvement.

Role Overview

You’ll be responsible for providing a customer focused and cost-effective service through virtual surveying. You’ll assess our customers’ property damage, the need for remediation, or replacement, using our in-house software – and aim to settle the claim for the customer, always following and contributing to our philosophies. By virtually assessing the scene of the loss or event, you’ll gather relevant information, document the findings and prepare and delivery the claim decisions and solutions to our customers.

Job details – you’ll need to have demonstrable experience in:

• Investigating, managing and reporting on a varied range of surveyed claims
• Liaising with customers, determining policy cover and legal liability investigations, establishing the loss value and any associated costs
• Handling and settling via desktop a varied range of incidents
• Ensuring all claims are managed properly, fairly and with integrity, producing reporting which demonstrates this
• Maintaining high standards of communication with internal stakeholders and providing information on significant claims trends
• Participating in the policy wording and claims handling enhancement working group and contributing to the claims auditing process

Essential Skills/experience

• Experience of investigating and handling domestic property claims
• Excellent knowledge of current case law, settlement methods, building regulations, market pricing and flood/escape of water/fire damage management best practices and principles
• Good knowledge and day to day experience around claims scoping and management software
