Construction of a new research and development facility in the Oxford Science Park is underway, set to be completed in 2027. The campus will include 300,000 sq ft of laboratories, a clinic, and educational spaces, facilitating the transition from research to implementation. EIT is seeking a highly detail-oriented and commercially savvy Designer - Architecture with proven experience in architecture and design sectors. The role involves identifying, evaluating, and securing design opportunities, focusing on core and shell elements across various projects, from small developments to large complexes. Responsibilities include space planning, detailed design reviews, and ensuring project execution from conception to operationalization.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong grasp of design principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholder requirements collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with Facilities, Lab Operations, Security, and Safety teams to balance design and technical performance criteria
  2. Develop project scopes and assist in creating project briefs
  3. Align designs with institute values and needs
  4. Present design options to stakeholders for input and approval
  5. Coordinate with internal departments to ensure scope completeness
  6. Manage internal and external design teams throughout project lifecycle
  7. Oversee project completion through construction, snagging, and operationalization
  8. Maintain building design records
  9. Assist with annual CapEx and OpEx budgets
  10. Line manage the Junior Designer role
  11. Build relationships with design teams, contractors, and industry professionals
  12. Maintain a contacts database and resources
  13. Work with senior team members to ensure smooth transition from development to operations
Requirements:
Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
  • 10 years of experience in architectural design projects
  • Understanding of regulations and industry standards
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and present strategic solutions
  • Concise presentation of options and recommendations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Collaborative team working skills with multiple stakeholders
Desirable:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture
