Job description

The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is also responsible for researching the best materials at the best cost.

In terms of design, there’s a variety of sites, many using existing buildings, each with unique challenges. The team also focuses on new materials, sustainability, and complying with evolving building and environmental legislation.

Most team members have an architectural or engineering background. We offer opportunities to gain expertise in design and project management in a stimulating environment.

Reporting to the Technical or Design Manager, your role is to support the design process and report on all planning and architectural aspects from land acquisition to site completion.

You will be expected to:

  • Provide a practical, cost-effective design service to the company.
  • Liaise with external designers to ensure best practices, control costs, and maximize revenue and contribution to profit.
  • Be responsible for producing technical design solutions within budget.
  • Support site evaluation, planning, and technical problem-solving with economical solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to Technical Department procedures and deliver layouts, reports, and drawings within deadlines.
  • Coordinate with Land, Development, Estimating, Construction, and Sales departments, providing accurate technical information.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies such as NHBC and planning authorities to meet standards and conditions.
  • Negotiate and secure planning consents on schedule.
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Implement new ideas to improve contributions and company reputation.

To succeed, you should be:

  • A motivated team player with drive and persistence.
  • An excellent communicator with attention to detail.
  • Experienced in established development methodologies.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks amid changing needs.
  • Experienced in roles such as Planner, Architectural Technician, or Design Engineer.
  • Knowledgeable about technical functions impacting site acquisition and development.
  • Qualified as an Engineer, Architectural Technician, or Planner to HNC level, RICS or RIBA qualified, or NVQ Level 5 in a relevant field.
