Designated Safeguarding Leader, Birmingham

Position: Full Time – Small Heath

A mainstream secondary school based in Small Heath is looking for a Designated Safeguarding Leader to join their team immediately. This is a long-term position, and with the right candidate, the school is open to offering a permanent role.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent
  • Currently qualified as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or held a previously accredited safeguarding qualification
  • Safeguarding training – multi-agency working
  • A full Enhanced Disclosure with Child Barred List check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • Right to Work in the UK
Desirable Qualifications
  • Additional qualifications supporting children and/or their families with additional needs
  • Diploma in Social Work with Children and Family to Level 4
Essential Experience
  • Experience working with children and families in difficulty and crisis
  • Experience of multi-agency working including childcare, health, and social care
  • Experience of safeguarding procedures
  • Teamwork experience
  • Experience of working as a DSL within a school or similar organization
  • Handling sensitive data with confidentiality
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with Attendance and Safeguarding systems (e.g., CPOMS)
  • Experience working with primary school children
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health issues
Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex/sensitive information
  • Ability to identify poor practice and raise concerns effectively with Senior Leadership
