Lampton School is a large, mixed, multi-ethnic 11-18 school. We were judged as \"Outstanding\" in all categories by Ofsted in 2005, 2008, 2013 and 2024. We are the lead school for the London West Alliance, and we are a teacher training partner with the University of Roehampton. As a member of the Hounslow Education Partnership we can offer staff excellent opportunities for professional learning and career progression.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, ambitious and enthusiastic Design & Technology Technician to join our successful and forward-thinking Art & Design faculty.

Art & Design is a popular and highly practical subject within our school, with students studying a range of specialisms including product design, construction, textiles, food and art-based disciplines at Key Stages 3 and 4. The faculty is well-resourced, with specialist workshops, design spaces, and food preparation facilities, enabling staff to deliver high-quality practical learning experiences. You will be joining an ambitious, collaborative and supportive team who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning.

About the role

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the faculty by preparing, maintaining and organising tools, equipment and materials across workshops and practical learning spaces. You will be expected to ensure that all equipment is safe, fully operational and compliant with health and safety requirements, including COSHH regulations and risk assessments.

You will work closely with teaching staff to support practical lessons, helping to prepare materials, demonstrate practical techniques where appropriate, and ensure students can safely access a wide range of tools, machinery and processes. Experience of CAD/CAM equipment such as laser cutters, CNC machinery and 3D printers is highly desirable, as is knowledge of workshop machinery maintenance and stock control systems.

A key aspect of the role will involve supporting the ongoing monitoring, inspection and maintenance of workshop equipment, including recording safety checks, assisting with servicing schedules, and helping to organise annual external inspections. You will also support stock control, purchasing and budget monitoring to ensure resources are efficiently managed.

In addition, the successful candidate will support a Design And Technology Association (DATA) consultant in delivering practical Design & Technology health and safety certification for teachers and technicians from other educational establishments. This will include assisting with the set-up of workshop environments, preparation and ordering of materials, and supporting the smooth delivery of practical training sessions.

You will be highly organised, proactive and practical, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be working closely with teachers, students and support staff to ensure safe and effective learning experiences. You will demonstrate a flexible and solution-focused approach, with a strong commitment to maintaining high standards across all practical areas.

Experience of working in a Design & Technology, engineering, manufacturing or construction environment is highly desirable, along with the ability to support students with practical activities under teacher direction and adapt resources to meet learning needs, including those of students with SEND.

You will contribute to the wider life of the faculty and school, supporting a culture of safety, creativity and high expectations, and ensuring that all students have access to high-quality practical education.

About the Department

The Art & Design faculty is a dynamic, collaborative and well-resourced team, delivering a broad curriculum across product design, construction, textiles, food and art-based disciplines. Staff work closely together to share expertise and ensure consistency of high-quality teaching and learning across all areas.

The department benefits from specialist workshops and facilities, including fully equipped design and manufacturing spaces and food preparation areas, enabling a wide range of practical projects. There is a strong emphasis on safety, creativity and hands-on learning, with students encouraged to develop practical skills, problem-solving abilities and technical understanding.

The faculty plays an important role in the wider life of the school, offering enrichment opportunities and supporting students to develop confidence and ambition in practical and creative subjects.

Lampton School actively encourages and supports the safeguarding and protection of all its students. This post involves regulated activity in relation to children and as such it is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure. In accordance with the DfE's Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 statutory guidance, we will complete a search of publicly available content online relating to any candidate seeking to work at Lampton School.
