Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is recruiting for a leading Canterbury secondary school to appoint a Design & Technology Workshop Technician. You will provide technical support to the DT and Art faculties, ensuring workshops operate safely and efficiently in line with health and safety legislation.

Qualifications

• Proven background in a secondary school DT setting, carpentry, engineering, or related technical field.
• Comprehensive grasp of workshop safety standards (DATA or H&S certification advantageous).
• Proven mechanical aptitude with standard woodworking and metalworking machinery.
• Experience with CAD/CAM, 3D printing, or laser engraving preferred.
• Current Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willingness to obtain prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Workshop Preparation: Organize and stock raw materials and machinery for KS3–KS5 classes.
• Maintenance & Quality Control: Servicing, safety audits, tool maintenance of traditional machinery and hand tools.
• Regulatory Compliance: Enforce DATA guidelines and COSHH; perform risk assessments in prep rooms and teaching spaces.
• Instructional Support: Assist educators and learners with practical modules, CAD/CAM projects.
• Resource Management: Manage inventories, process purchase orders, and handle deliveries.
