Job summary

Smithdon High School is seeking a Design Technology, Food and Arts Technician to join our team. The role involves supporting practical lessons across Art, Design Technology and Food, with some duties in science. Start date Sept 2026.

You will prepare equipment, monitor stock, ensure safety, and assist teachers and pupils. The post is 25 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, with a Grade E scale (£13.90 per hour). Interviews in Sept 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience in a school or educational technician role is advantageous.
• Ability to prepare equipment and materials for practical lessons.
• Training will be provided for responsibilities listed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain equipment in the department, perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, and keep a daily inspection log.
• Provide timely preparation of materials and other resources for students’ work.
• Be familiar with ICT (Google Suite) and CAD/CAM equipment, including laser/3D printer.
• Ensure safety, stock control, and proper storage of materials and examination work.
• Assist in organising displays and supporting exhibitions and co-curricular activities.
• Support pupils in small groups or one-to-one to develop design solutions.
