Job summary

Michael Page is recruiting for a Design Team Leader to lead a design group within a manufacturing and production business based in Runcorn. You will oversee designers, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet technical requirements.

You will drive design processes across fabrication, machining, assembly, automation and process engineering, coordinating with Project Engineers, Controls Engineers and purchasing to deliver safe, compliant equipment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in designing bespoke machinery and capital equipment.
• Strong mechanical design capability with manufacturing drawings.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software.
• Experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate activities within a project or team.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and support to the Mechanical Design team.
• Act as the primary point of contact for technical design decisions and engineering escalations.
• Ensure designs are safe, practical, manufacturable and compliant with requirements.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments and problem-solving activities.
• Lead development and maintenance of standard designs and design methodologies.
• Drive continuous improvement within the engineering function.
• Coordinate and prioritise design activities to support project objectives.
• Monitor team workload and resource allocation across projects.
• Maintain engineering documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.
