What Does It Take?

As a Design Systems Manager, you will be part of a broader product design organization within a global division spanning countries and time zones, helping to shape the future of the BBC product suite outside the UK. You will lead the evolution and governance of our design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and efficiency across digital products. This role involves working cross-functionally with designers, engineers, and product managers to maintain and enhance a critical design foundation that supports a cohesive design and component library, contributing to ongoing improvements in user experience and visual design.

In this role, you will:

• Be responsible for the development, maintenance, and evolution of our design system supporting multiple platforms and products.
• Define and document guidelines, principles, and best practices to ensure design consistency across complex files and structures.
• Analyze our existing design systems and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to build reusable, scalable, and performant components and frameworks.
• Educate and train teams on design system principles and usage.
• Champion accessibility and inclusivity by integrating best practices into the design system.
• Empathize with user needs and provide solutions through training and support to teams outside of design.
• Work closely with design operations to improve efficiency in design and development processes.
• Communicate and advocate for the design system, providing training, support, and resources for internal teams.
• Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design systems and UI/UX.
• Foster a collaborative work environment, sharing ideas and guiding other designers creatively.

Scope & Impact:

• Reports to the Global Digital News and Streaming Creative Director.
• Contribute to the creative vision for current and future products, ensuring this vision is documented, communicated, and adhered to.
• Take charge of individual projects or tasks.
• Mentor or guide junior creatives within the team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Extensive (5+ years) experience in a digital UX team environment.
• Experience in news media is a plus.
• A relevant portfolio showcasing recent work across multiple projects demonstrating your contributions.

Package Description

Salary: Up to £72,000 plus London Weighting, based on skills and experience. The range reflects internal and market benchmarks.

Contract: Permanent

Location: London, Television Centre; hybrid working model.
