A Structural Design Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, and verification of structural systems for buildings, industrial facilities, infrastructure projects, data centers, and other construction developments, ensuring that structures are safe, economical, durable, and compliant with applicable codes and standards. The role involves preparing structural calculations, design reports, and detailed engineering solutions for reinforced concrete, structural steel, composite, and foundation systems. The Structural Design Engineer works closely with architects, geotechnical engineers, MEP engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients to develop efficient structural designs that meet project requirements while optimizing cost, constructability, and performance. Key responsibilities include performing load calculations, structural analysis, member sizing, connection design, foundation design, and seismic and wind resistance assessments using industry-standard software such as ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, SAP2000, Revit Structure, and Tekla. The engineer is responsible for preparing and reviewing structural drawings, design calculations, technical specifications, and material quantities, ensuring compliance with international standards such as ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes, and local regulatory requirements. The Structural Design Engineer participates in design coordination meetings and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design conflicts, improve constructability, and support project execution. The role also involves conducting value engineering studies, evaluating alternative design solutions, and recommending cost-effective structural systems without compromising safety or quality. During project execution, the engineer reviews shop drawings, material submittals, fabrication drawings, and construction methodologies to ensure alignment with the approved design intent.
