Job description

My client is the global market leader in Airport & Parcel Solutions, and sorting systems for Warehouse Solutions. Working within the UK Project Delivery Engineering team for Airport & Parcel Solutions, you will have opportunities and potential to join a wide and diverse range of projects and will contribute to sales and engineering projects on design safety of material handling systems. In this role you will work closely with the team of Design Safety Engineers guiding and supporting projects for increasing the maturity of design safety compliance through design reviews and site inspections of mechanical, electromechanical and controls systems.


Role Responsibilities

The department you will be working in will be based in the UK whilst focusing on projects across the Airports and Parcel segment across the EMEA LATAM region (Europe, Middle East, Africa & Latin America). The team has strong collaborative links across the customer centre and centrally offering expertise in Design Safety Compliance. To accommodate continued growth and prepare for future success, we are seeking a Design Safety Expert, who can blend technical expertise, with a hands-on and open approach ensuring projects success.


Your responsibilities and activities will include:

  1. Utilise expert skills and knowledge to guide multiple project teams, internal and external suppliers to deliver safe system design solutions, with the ability to deal with ambiguity to make and own risk-based decisions.
  2. Identifying design safety uncertainty through effective risk analysis and propose mitigations as well as executing site inspections.
  3. Continuously improve and grow your own and teams technical and professional development, sharing lessons learned across projects and products.
  4. Able to identify non-compliance through audit of the system design from start of pre bid phase, through Engineering and handover phases to provide a Declaration of Conformance (CE/UKCA).
  5. Communicate effectively with project and management teams on status and performance, highlighting potential risks and solutions.
Qualification and Skills
  1. Exposure in working in similar role or environment.
  2. BSc/MSc in Engineering field.
  3. Understanding of the machinery directive (2006/42/EC) and experience in the application of safety standards such as EN 619; ISO (phone number removed)/2; ISO 13850, ISO (phone number removed) till -4; IEC (phone number removed).
  4. Qualified in machine safety CMSE (Certified Machine Safety Expert) or equivalent.
  5. Knowledge of electrical safety and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
  6. Competency in PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998).
  7. Evidence of working in the area of machine safety.
  8. Formal health, safety and environment qualification (CDM, IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS).
  9. Professionally Accredited with an engineering body or aiming to be.
  10. Proven track record in material handling systems strongly preferred. Experience of airport baggage handling or parcel systems (note training will be given in these disciplines).
  11. Proven track record with customer interaction by the means of presenting, workshops etc. strongly preferred.
