Job summary

New World Fashion Sourcing Direct Ltd invites applications for a Design Room Assistant / Assistant Designer to join our London design team. You will support the Head of Design and Senior Designers across projects, from trend research to preparing tech packs for the sample room.

The ideal candidate should have strong CAD skills in Adobe Illustrator, a good eye for fashion details, and the willingness to contribute across multiple design tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Fashion Design or related discipline.
• Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and fashion CADs.
• Understanding of garment construction and tech packs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Design and Senior Designers on day-to-day design projects and seasonal collections.
• Create, amend and update fashion CADs using Adobe Illustrator.
• Prepare detailed and accurate tech packs and design specifications for the sample room.
• Conduct trend, colour and competitor research and assist with mood boards and design direction.
• Assist with creating AI-generated fashion sketches and design concepts when appropriate.
• Photograph and measure garments and track shopping samples.
• Liaise with overseas factories, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure accurate communication of designs.
• Assist with presentations, design boards and general project administration.
• Keep design files, samples and seasonal information organised and up to date.
• Manage multiple tasks and deadlines while supporting the wider Design team.

Job Description - Design Room Assistant / Assistant Designer

We are looking for a motivated and highly organised Design Room Assistant / Assistant Designer to join our Design team. This is a hands-on role supporting the Head of Design and Senior Designers across a wide range of projects, from initial trend research and concept development through to preparing tech packs for the sample room.

The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for fashion and detail, excellent CAD skills and a proactive approach. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their design experience within a fast-paced fashion environment.

The Role

What We're Looking For

• A degree in Fashion Design or a related discipline, or relevant industry experience.
• Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, particularly fashion CADs and technical drawings.
• A good understanding of garment construction, tech packs and the product development process.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• A strong eye for detail, colour, proportion and current fashion trends.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• A proactive, hands‑on attitude with a willingness to get involved, take initiative and support the team wherever needed, while managing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
• A strong interest in fashion design and product development, with a desire to learn, develop and take on greater responsibility.
• Experience using AI tools to generate fashion sketches, concepts or design ideas would be a bonus.
• Knowledge and experience of garment measuring and speccing is desirable.
