Job description

Design Project Engineer (6-Month Contract)
Location: Rochdale
Rate: £38,000 - £48,000 (Pro Rata / DOE)

We're working with a leading manufacturer based in Rochdale who are seeking an experienced Design Engineer for a 6-month contract. This is a key role within their engineering team, supporting a range of new and existing projects through 3D design and process improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering detailed SolidWorks designs and helping to streamline production processes through close collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Produce and manage detailed 3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
2. Support the development and introduction of new products as well as improvements to existing designs.
3. Work alongside the Senior Projects Engineer and Design & Commercial Engineer to achieve project objectives.
4. Liaise with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Purchasing teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
5. Support the creation of accurate BOMs and Routings for new and modified products.
6. Participate in process reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
7. Ensure all design documentation is clear, up to date, and well controlled.
8. Engage with the implementation and optimization of the company's ERP system as it relates to design data.
9. Prepare technical specifications and design reports for internal and customer review.

Key Requirements:

1. Proven experience in a Design Engineer role within a manufacturing environment.
2. Highly desirable experience with Solar/Wind Renewable Projects.
3. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (Essential).
4. Familiarity with ERP systems and managing design data through structured processes.
5. Background in process improvement or continuous improvement (Lean, Kaizen, etc.).
6. Good understanding of ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality standards.
7. HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
8. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
9. Full UK Driving Licence.
