Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience + excellent benefits package

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, Office hours

Are you a design-focused engineer who enjoys solving practical challenges in a production environment? If you're confident with CAD, understand how products move through assembly, and have an eye for continuous improvement, this could be a brilliant opportunity.

ISQ Recruitment is supporting a growing engineering business in Cambridgeshire to recruit a Design & Process Engineer. This newly created position offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact across both design and production functions.

About the Role:

You’ll be responsible for designing and developing product-specific components that support safe storage, movement, and assembly. Using tools like SolidWorks and Kasemake, you’ll create practical, CAD-based designs while working to improve associated processes. Alongside the design work, you’ll collaborate with teams across production, assembly, and supply chain to identify improvement opportunities and reduce waste using Lean principles.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  1. Create CAD designs for custom components that support the safe handling and assembly of products
  2. Work with production and assembly teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and easy to implement
  3. Review and refine existing product handling and assembly processes
  4. Select appropriate materials and recommend improvements to reduce cost or improve safety and sustainability
  5. Maintain BOMs and manage design data within the MRP system
  6. Investigate and resolve issues related to design, handling, or assembly
  7. Contribute to Lean improvement activities, including A3 problem solving
  8. Document and help standardise new processes
  9. Liaise with suppliers to ensure design solutions are delivered effectively

What We’re Looking For Essential:

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  2. 2+ years in a design or process engineering role
  3. Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
  4. Experience in a manufacturing, assembly or low-volume production environment
  5. Understanding of Lean principles and process improvement techniques
  6. Ability to produce and interpret technical drawings

Desirable:

  1. Experience designing components to assist with product assembly or handling
  2. Familiarity with CAD tools beyond SolidWorks (e.g. Kasemake or similar)
  3. Involvement in continuous improvement projects or use of A3 methodology
  4. Understanding of BOM structures and MRP systems

Why Apply?

  1. Hybrid working available after onboarding
  2. Purpose-built facilities with on-site parking
  3. Excellent benefits package
  4. Friendly, supportive team environment
  5. Ongoing training and long-term progression opportunities
