Job Title: Design Manager - Residential Development (Structural Focus)
Location: Acton
Day Rate: £360 - £380

Our client is a leading residential developer delivering high-quality, multi-phase new-build developments across the UK. Their current flagship project includes several RC frame residential blocks, with some already occupied and others in various stages of construction.
They are seeking a Design Manager to take a leadership role in overseeing and coordinating structural design changes across multiple blocks. This is a critical role for ensuring the successful and safe delivery of complex alterations within a live residential environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design process for structural changes to multiple new-build RC frame residential blocks.
- Oversee and manage a team of external consultants and structural engineers to deliver practical, cost-effective, and compliant solutions.
- Coordinate structural changes with other design and construction disciplines including Architecture, M&E, carpentry, dry lining, Façade, and Fire Engineering.
- Identify and mitigate risks to other construction packages affected by the proposed structural works.
- Collaborate closely with the construction team to ensure successful on-site delivery and sequencing of structural changes.
- Work within the constraints of an occupied development - ensuring minimal disruption, clear communication, and safe delivery at all times.
- Maintain clear, up-to-date records, drawings, and decision logs.
- Report progress and risk to senior management with transparency and accuracy.
About You
- Proven experience as a Design Manager or similar in a residential development or construction environment.
- Strong technical understanding of RC frame construction and structural modification processes.
- Experience working in live or partially occupied developments is highly desirable.
- Strong coordination skills and experience working with multi-disciplinary consultant teams.
- Ability to foresee, plan, and mitigate design-related risks during live construction.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Degree qualified in Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- Chartered status (ICE, IStructE, CIOB, RIBA) is advantageous but not essential.
