Your Role

As a Design Manager at WSP in the PMCM Civil Infrastructure and Utilities team, you will be responsible for delivering complex projects of regional, national, and international importance across sectors such as highways, aviation, defence and security, energy, environment, water, etc. You will lead multi-disciplinary design teams, ensuring high-quality, timely, and budget-compliant project outcomes.

Our Design Managers are adaptable, innovative, and comfortable working on significant and complex projects. They collaborate closely with external clients and internal teams, utilizing WSP offices, client sites, and/or project sites to deliver strategic projects.

We combine deep technological expertise with subject matter knowledge to deliver innovative solutions that align with client ambitions and ensure future readiness.

Your Team

We are a diverse and inclusive team of Project, Commercial, and Design Managers working across various sectors in the UK, dedicated to delivering tailored solutions for our clients and shaping the built environment.

Your Responsibilities
  • Managing medium to large projects with significant responsibilities.
  • Planning and tracking documentation, implementing management and assurance controls for design certainty.
  • Communicating effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Leading Design Team Meetings, documenting minutes, and ensuring actions are completed.
  • Improving and implementing project management processes, coordinating disciplines through workshops.
  • Reviewing quotations to ensure alignment with scope, budget, and client requirements.
  • Managing project changes and delays, resolving or mitigating issues.
  • Updating design delivery plans, resources, and instructions.
  • Promoting efficiency, innovation, and buildability, considering different design stages.
  • Coordinating across all disciplines to ensure quality and add value.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Competence in stakeholder management, risk, planning, and commercial management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships, influence, and listen effectively.
  • Curiosity, solution focus, and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Experience in delivering value-added services.
  • Chartered or near Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
  • A degree in engineering, design, architecture, or management is advantageous.
  • Contract management experience or certifications are a plus.
  • Experience working with organizations like National Highways, Transport for London, or similar is beneficial.
