Within our construct business, we harness our unique combination of leading-edge practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock the potential in every project.

We are hiring ambitious and forward-thinking design managers, with different levels of experience, to join our established and growing team at Heathrow.

The project:

Mace is the delivery partner for Heathrow across several programmes:

  1. The Commercial Programme aims to give passengers the best airport service in the world whilst protecting existing revenue and unlocking additional revenue sources.
  2. The Asset Management and Compliance (AMC) programme maintains physical and technological assets, keeping colleagues and consumers safe and secure, keeping critical functions operational, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. The Efficient Airport Programme (EAP) aims to improve Heathrow’s resilience, efficiency, and service standards to provide more predictable and reliable journeys while delivering operational productivity and capacity optimization.

Due to a strong pipeline, several projects within these programmes require resources with diverse backgrounds (MEP and Architectural).

Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey:

Safety first - Going home safe and well:

  • You will be an advocate of Mace's value of safety first and be accountable for leading and maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability, and compliance standards for the design resources you manage.
  • You will possess technical expertise in local health and safety rules and regulations relevant to the project portfolio.
  • You will champion a diverse and inclusive working environment and understand the importance of the wellbeing of the people you manage.

Client focus - Deliver on our promise:

  • You will guide the daily activities of the team of design management resources for projects.
  • You will support the delivery of design management to achieve key strategic outcomes & sub-function KPIs, directly influencing strategic development.
  • You will be a point of contact for client design issues, ensuring relationships are managed and maintained.
  • You will review tender documentation and identify project risks.
  • You will assist the design team through the RIBA 2 to 4 design stages (generally) and the delivery team through to implementation and handover.
  • You will demonstrate design management procedures, review programmes, and set design deliverables.
  • You will attend and chair design coordination team meetings as necessary during contract, maintaining minutes, and ensuring the design risk register is maintained by the P.D.
  • You will oversee the identification of constraints via clash detection exercises and manage resolution through design solutions or concessions.
  • You will ensure compliance with relevant legislative and client standards, facilitating the process of raising and agreeing concessions with stakeholders for derogations from ERs.
  • You will manage engagement with Building Control and CDM and Building Regulations processes related to Mace’s Principal Designer role.
  • You will monitor and report on design progress, statutory approvals, outstanding information, subcontractor design, and environmental/CDM issues.
  • You will develop and agree on design input/output responsibilities between consultants and subcontractors with design responsibilities.
  • You will monitor progress and the status of RFIs and document control.

Integrity - Always do the right thing:

  • You will manage the implementation of design management systems, processes, and protocols to meet statutory, legal, and contractual requirements.
  • You will support the long-term development of strategy for a function or business unit, creating a sustainable business future.
  • You will commit to making a positive impact for our people, clients, and the planet, taking ownership for holding others accountable who do not uphold Mace values.

Create opportunity for our people to excel:

  • You will support your project team and foster an environment to share knowledge and experience.
  • You will actively network, innovate, and seek best practices, utilizing the full depth of Mace group resources, centers of excellence, Mace way control center, and knowledge hub.
  • You will leverage your network to support business development and work-winning activities.

Requirements:

  • A good understanding of the full design and construction process.
  • Ability to achieve full membership of a relevant professional body, or already possess it.

  • Experience with BIM 360 or ACC is appreciated.
  • You have a construction or project management background and are eager to grow your career with Mace.

Mace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from candidates of diverse backgrounds. Even if you do not meet all criteria, please apply as you may still be the best fit for this or other roles within our organization.
