Job Description:

At Mace, our purpose is to redefine the boundaries of ambition. Within our construction business, we harness our unique combination of leading-edge practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock the potential in every project.

We are hiring ambitious and forward-thinking design managers, with varying levels of experience, to join our established and growing team at Heathrow.

The project:

Mace is the delivery partner for Heathrow across several programmes:

  • The Commercial Programme aims to give passengers the best airport service in the world whilst protecting existing revenue and unlocking additional revenue sources.
  • The Asset Management and Compliance (AMC) programme maintains physical and technological assets, keeping colleagues and consumers safe, ensuring critical functions are operational, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • The Efficient Airport Programme (EAP) aims to improve Heathrow’s resilience, efficiency, and service standards to provide more predictable and reliable journeys while delivering operational productivity and capacity optimization.

Due to a strong pipeline, several projects within these programmes require resources with different backgrounds (MEP and Architectural preferred).

Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey:

You will possess technical expertise in local health and safety rules and regulations relevant to the project portfolio.

You will champion a diverse and inclusive working environment, understanding the importance of wellbeing for the people you manage.

You will guide daily activities of the design management team for projects.

You will support the delivery of design management to achieve strategic outcomes & KPIs, directly influencing strategic development.

You will be a point of contact for client design issues, ensuring relationships are managed and maintained.

Responsibilities include reviewing tender documentation, identifying project risks, supporting design through RIBA stages 2 to 4, demonstrating design management procedures, reviewing programmes, setting deliverables, attending/chairing meetings, maintaining minutes, managing design risk register, overseeing clash detection and resolution, ensuring compliance with legislative and client standards, facilitating concessions, engaging with Building Control, CDM, and Building Regulations, monitoring progress, approvals, RFIs, document control, and developing responsibilities with consultants and subcontractors.

Integrity - Always do the right thing:

You will implement design management systems, support strategic development, and uphold positive impacts for people, clients, and the planet, holding others accountable to Mace values.

Create opportunity for our people to excel:

You will support your project team, foster knowledge sharing, network actively, innovate, and leverage Mace’s resources for business development and work-winning activities.

Requirements:

  • A good understanding of the full design and construction process.
  • Full membership of a relevant professional body is required or already held.
  • DfMA or MMC experience is valued.
  • Aviation experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the Principal Designer role under CDM and Building Regulations is desirable, with awareness of duties.
  • Digitally savvy, capable of building client relationships, and leading motivated teams.
  • Experience with BIM 360 or ACC is appreciated.
  • A background in construction or project management and a desire to grow your career with Mace.
